Christmas in Colorado

I failed Chelsea's challenge and didn't get anything posted before Christmas. I was going to post these the day after Christmas when we got back to Atlanta but I had a cold and spent Thursday and Friday last week in bed. So... that is my excuse for the delay. Here are just a couple of pictures of Dan and I in Miliken (spelling?), Colorado, an hour north of Denver where my sister Amy's family lives. Star, her husband, built the house they are living in and we all stayed there. When I say all, I am referring to my mom and step-dad, Larry, and my other sister's family - Kit, Steve, Callie and Ella, in addition to Amy, Star, Summer, Dartanyan, 3 rat terrier puppies, 2 adult rat terriers, 3 other dogs and a slew of horses (of course, they stay outside though). Dan went skiing one day with Star. He just couldn't bear to go out to Colorado without hitting the slopes. I obviously passed on that this year. Dan also enjoyed ATV-ing in the snow and teaching Larry how to do donuts. I enjoyed a much more relaxing time of sitting on the couch by the fire with a puppy named John Rose in my lap, knitting a baby blanket for my daughter. I did, however, drive the tractor once and helped Amy deliver hay to the horses during feeding time.








Yes, I am wearing a bath robe, looking pathetic and very pregnant. It was Christmas morning. I am sure you can understand. Puppy John Rose in on the left. His brother, Idaho Spud and sister, Lucy are on the right. Aren't they cute?

it's okay that you have neglected your blog...you are not a failure in my book....but my comment did get you to post something new! Yeah! Sounds like you guys had a great time over christmas. I can't believe you are due NEXT MONTH!! She's going to be here before you realize it!!! Happy New Year!

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone."
