Marie is talking

Well... kinda. She likes to make a lot of sounds and is very responsive. Sometimes it is amazing how similar her sound is to either the sound I make or the word I say. She is so much fun! I'm having a blast being her mommy.


On the flip side, sometimes I think I have more fun than she does (see picture below). For example, I gave her two raspberries when I was changing her diaper the other day, and the second one made her cry. It's still pretty cute 'cause she takes her time and her bottom lip slowly turns down until she has a pouty face and then she frowns, opens her mouth and starts to whimper cry. She did the exact same thing when I made the... (how do you describe it...) buzzing noise / airplane noise when your lips are flabbery and you breath out. I need to get her to relax and have some fun. Which she usually does, but understandably sometimes new things really scare her.

I was singing "In The Jungle" and dancing for Andrew today after his nap, and he was very annoyed. Apparently he needs a little more time after waking up to really appreciate my silliness.

I'm really digging the word "flabbery." :-) Great description.

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone."
