Big News

We have some big news... yep, we are pregnant again (for those of you who didn't already know), due December 21st AND since we have waited so long to announce it on the blog we can even broadcast what we are having...
A BOY!
We found out last Friday and then headed out of town to go to Charleston for the weekend. All weekend long, I just kept telling Dan in disbelief, "We are going to have a little boy". It is taking me a little while to wrap my mind around it. My mother, even more so. Here is how the conversation went when we told her:
Me: We're having a boy
Mom: Nooo. (in utter disbelief)
Me: Yep, a boy.
Mom: Noo (pause). Really?
Me: Yeah.
Mom: Well you could just knock me over with a feather.
I was throughouly amused. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, already bought a blue outfit before we officially knew on Friday. I haven't bought any boy clothes yet but I am busy figuring out the new nursery (Marie will keep her existing room), picking out a glider and just tonight Dan picked up a crib that a co-worker gave us!
While I will admit I was afraid to have a boy for my first child, I am okay with it now, even though I am a bit nervous (I don't know anything about little boys). However, all my boy-mommy friends tell me how much fun they are and I am sure it will be. It is just exciting to know we are having another baby and Marie will be a big sister! We feel very blessed.

Woohoo!!! I am so excited! Our little rascals will be just a few months apart- yay! We can discover this "mommy to boys" thing together :)

Really, having boys is fabulous! You are going to be amazed at how precious and beloved a little boy can be to you!

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
