So much going on...
It has been very busy around the Rollman house lately and so much to share. The playset is done - sanded, stained, completely put together (roof, ramp, slide), and in my opinion, beautiful. We use it almost every day. Pictures will be forthcoming. I didn't get to take any pictures today because (drum roll please) we were having a new driveway poured... to go with our new deck! Needless to say, we are done with house projects for the rest of 2010. Photos of these two things will be forthcoming too.
And now on the kiddo front - lots to report here too. JJ started solids a few weeks ago. After waking up every 2 hours on a Saturday night, I bought rice cereal the very next day. He loved it!
So much so that he was eating it off his bib. I think it has helped eliminate some night feedings but we are far from JJ sleeping from 7 pm to 8 am like he was a month ago. However I realize that is an anomaly. He had a doctor's appointment yesterday and weighed 14 lbs 14 oz, but is only in the 25th percentile. He was also in the 25th percentile for height, which really surprised me because I think he is long and I don't perceive him as being small. Oh well, whatever.
JJ is also sitting up as of today! He is 5 months old today too. However, as you can see in the picture above, he likes to lean and reach for toys so up until now, he would just fall forward. On the crawling front, he basically gets into a push-up position with a totally straight back, on his toes and tries to launch himself forward. As soon as he figures out how to get his knees up and under him, he will be constantly on the go. I am not eager for that but if he can move, he is likely to be less frustrated when he rolls onto his tummy.
Hopefully you have stuck with me and this post because we have BIG Marie news. We converted her crib into a toddler bed! I'm not calling it a "big girl bed" because, well it's not, and I don't think I'm quite ready for that - after all she is still my baby girl. Basically she got really good at climbing out of her crib and would do it after her nap and almost every morning silently. Then she'd walk up to the edge of my bed and scarce the heck out of me. The toddler bed is a nice intermediate step - still small and certainly familiar but most importantly, low to the ground. I think it will make the switch to a true "big girl bed" much easier. Perhaps I will just get some side rails but other than that, we will have already crossed the hurdle of getting Marie to stay in her bed for naps and at night. So far, she has napped 3 out of 4 days there without a problem. The one day she didn't nap was the day we converted it and Dan did it literally 5 minutes before her nap, basically while I was putting her diaper on (she is basically potty-trained except for sleeping). So I think she was just too excited about the change, and being able to get in and out of her bed, that she couldn't sleep. Now after she wakes up, sometimes she just sits on her bed and reads, but its more fun than before because she can go back and forth to the bookshelf picking out her favorite books.

I can't believe JJ is eating and sitting and practically crawling around. Amazing. And I just love that picture of Marie in her Almost-But-Not-Quite big girl bed ... hair, hair, hair!
