JJ's First ER Visit

A week ago at this time of night, Dan, JJ and I were waiting to be “released” from Children’s Hospital after he got 5 stitches. The evening was suppose to go as follows: 1. Feed JJ 2. Bathe Marie and JJ 3. Put JJ down to sleep 4. Marie, Dan and I eat dinner We got as far as #1, when in the process of getting JJ undressed for his bath, his head popped out of his shirt and crashed down into the tile edge of the bathtub surround. Ugh… one nice gash on the bridge of his nose and we were on the way to Children’s Hospital at 6:45. We got there at 7:00 and were quickly seen at triage (Mommy is still awak in this picture and JJ is looking apprehensively at the nurse), where they concurred that he needed stitches and put a numbing ointment on the gash and taped it into place. We were then sent back to an “ortho” waiting room (no sick germs) where JJ literally ran around in circles, climbed over all the arm chairs, and rearranged the furniture. Dan tried to get a few pictures of him but needless to say the shutter speed on his phone just wasn't fast enough. He was deliriously tired but happy and didn't hardly mess with the tape on his nose - amazing. About 9:15 perhaps, we were called back to an exam room and eventually a doctor saw us and said a “Plastics” resident would be called in to do the stitches. We waited a while longer. At 10:00, the resident came in and stitched up JJ’s nose beautifully, while Dan held his head and I held his arms. JJ wasn't still the entire night EXCEPT when he was on the exam table actually getting the stitches. Thank God! We obviously didn’t want him to have to be sedated. This was taken right after he was done getting stitches. We were released a little after 11 pm, and totally expected JJ to zonk out in the car. Nope, he stayed awake the entire drive home and even once we got here, I tried to take him upstairs and he pointed the (cold) quiche on the counter and said “That”. I paused and thought, “No, you just need to get to bed” and continued walking toward the stairs. He burst in tears and kept pointing adamantly to the quiche saying “That! That!” So… at 11:30, after a night in the ER, here is JJ eating his second dinner. So far his gash has healed really well but I anticipate he will have a scar, albeit, much smaller than if we had decided not to bring him to the ER for stitches.
