The first day of school... a month later

Most mommies posted their 'first day of school" pictures that Tuesday after they sent the little ones off to school. Some took a week to do it - no, not me. It took me a month. Sorry. And I didn't even really get good ones so we took pictures the second day of school too. Take one - Marie is showing off her school bag that I made her. I made one for JJ too. (Sad side note - while I dying the canvas pink, JJ threw my phone into the 5 gallon bucket of dye. That is my third blackberry in a row to succumb to a liquid death! Albeit, over a 5 year time period.) This the only somewhat decent picture of both of them together - too bad it is in the garage with the minivan in the background. Take two: The "second day of school" photo shoot was a little better.Now that they have been in school a month, I can confidently report they are both enjoying it. Apparently JJ says all the names of the kids in his class as he points to them. Marie is taking after-school music. She has made a new friend in the class and is learning music things I don't know. Lastly one JJ and Marie story: One of JJ's favorite words is eye. He says it OFTEN, many times a day. The kids were playing outside and our backyard neighbor came out. She's about 5 and she said "I have pink eye." JJ gets excited and says "Eye! Eye!." Marie chimes in, "I have blue eyes."

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
