Drywall is UP!!!

We are almost 3 months into our kitchen remodel with just over 2 months to go. (So I guess it would be more like 5 months, instead of the 6 months I was anticipating!). Various stages along the way are especially exciting. It is neat to see the immense progress of the framing going up because it is so visually dramatic. It was neat two Fridays ago when the old kitchen wall came down and you could actually see it all as one continuous space! Then I was ecstatic when the lights got wired and the space was filled with light for the first time. Well, today is another exciting day! The drywall went up and it is beginning to look like an actual room - not just wood studs. So without further ado, here are some photos:
Looking from the laundry room side / garage entrance
Opposite side of the room - looking toward the laundry room and bay windows of the old breakfast roomThe "addition" - the deck is on the left and a new screen porch in on the right. A desk will go in the back right corner. The main kitchen wall. The fridge will be to the right of the door, then eventually the stove top (you can see where the gas line is coming up out of the ground) and of course lots of cabinets too. A huge island will be at the bottom of this picture, which will house the sink and encompass the prep and clean up areas.
From the new space looking toward the doorways to the playroom and the hallway to the living room. The "east-west" wall will be the baking area with the oven in the right corner and counter top and cabinets to the left. Behind that wall is a walk-in pantry and opposite that is a small bar area. And because our temporary kitchen is clean right now (thanks Dan), here are some pictures of that. This used to be the living room and the wet bar sink serves as our main sink. There is a small countertop oven in the corner under the bookshelves and there is a single cooktop burner in the foreground. We had this extra kitchen table from Dan's college days and we put it up on wood blocks so it would be countertop height. All and all our temporary kitchen works great and I even made 5 chicken pot pies in it on Wednesday! (Ridiculous I know, but for the record I brought three as meals to new mommies and I only intended to have one for us but there was enough stuff left over for a whole nother pie).
