Friday Night Dance Party

I volunteered for "mini-vbs" last week at church and was in Marie's room along with 4 other toddlers and another Mom. Everyday during our outdoor playtime they had a special theme - for example beach balls, bubbles and on the last day - water! Here are some pictures of Marie splashing and playing with her friend Ellie in one of the baby pools. I love the girl's expressions in the first picture.
We also had a 15 minute music time every morning where the kids would sing and do movements to go with the song lyrics. Marie loved it - luckily we got a CD with the music so she doesn't have to rely on my musically abilities for any of her enjoyment. At the end of the day, I would play the CD is our classroom and have the kids dance around if they wanted. Marie loved this too. She would point to the CD player and ask for more. So at the end of the week we had our first "Friday Night Dance Party" at home (I am borrowed this from my sister Kit's family who do this every Friday) and got to show Dan how Marie loves to dance. And of course, I got it on video.

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
