fly? swim? crawl? just plain be on the move! JJ will not stay on his back more than about 10 seconds (if he isn't tired anyway). He almost immediately rolls over and starts to do Superman arms combined with a swimming kick. He certainly won't start crawling in the next week or anything but I am almost positive it will be way before Marie did. I have even decided I am going to have to take his 6-month "baby parts" photos early. I certainly have to do it before he is crawling and at this rate, he will be crawling by 6 months. In case you were wondering, he is 4 months today!
On the Marie front... I am just blown away by her verbal skills. My mother-in-law is too so I am not just a totally biased parent (well... grandmas are biased too but even she is surprised by the sentences Marie will say and she has been around a kid or two.) For example, almost two months ago she said two 5-word sentences on the same day. "I wanna see nice kitty" and "I want some chicken nuggets." I wish the 6th word was "please" but we are working on that. So get this, yesterday at breakfast she is looking out the bay window and says, "mousie" and I say, "No, I don't think it's a mouse." Marie - "Squirrel?". "Yes, it's probably a squirrel." She continues looking out the window as I unload the dishwasher and a few minutes later she says "I see squirrel (small pause) climbing up the tree." That is 7-words and it even included "the". Is this my daughter? Me - who was slow to read, can't spell, mispronounces words every day and is constantly mixing sayings? She might not look anything like Dan but she has his smarts.

Whadayamean she don't look like Dan? Baleve it or not, he had curly hair as a baby! And Marie musta tooken after her ejucated gramaw with her sufisticated speech patterns. LOL! Seriously, they are both precious! And I continue to be amazed at Marie's language skills. -Nana

OH...and if JJ is anything like Daddy, he will have all the tools out in no time, will have set up a home office in his nursery, and will make sure all the kitchen cabinets stay secure to the wall with tons of tape and string! -Nana

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
