A Little Post about the Little Boy

Since my last kid post was exclusively about Marie, this one will be all about JJ. Maybe I will alternate like that, maybe not. Anyway... JJ is a good eater - just like his sister was at this age. He loves muenster cheese and might actually be signing 'cheese'. I think he kind of signs 'more' but he is on the young side for using signs so I am not sure. Regardless though, I am doing lots of signs with him and hope he will follow after Marie in this category too. He also LOVES strawberries. The other day I think I cut up 6 strawberries for him! Six - can you believe that?!?! He can eat just about anything even though he only has two teeth (neither is totally grown in yet). He also has a favorite lovey, like his sister. I don't think Marie got attached to Lamby this young though. When JJ was born, Marie gave him a plush, tan puppy dog when she came to meet him at the hospital. Out of all his stuff animals that is the one I am most fond of. At one point, when he was pretty young, it seemed like he needed help to shut out the rest of the world and go to sleep. That is when I always started giving him Doggie to sleep with and he would just bury his head into the puppy. Now I don't think JJ will sleep without it. He methodically pets or twirls his tail. But by far, JJ's favorite thing to do with puppy is bite, gnaw, nibble or suck his tail though. Like Lamby, we have two spares because heaven-forbid if something were to happen to either one of them, we'd be able to quickly replace them and get our kids to sleep that night.

Now unlike Marie, JJ is a magnet to what he should not touch or get into. If he has a break-away, he will go to one of the following places: -up the stairs -to clank the fireplace tools -unplug the monitor from his wall -touch the grill tools Or -to the open dishwasher - this is one of his absolute favorites!

Oh my gosh, both of those pictures are absolutely precious! What a spunky kiddo. If he's like his daddy, he will put his hands on the dishwashyer when it's running, and start dancing to the rhythm. A little later he will connect every kitchen cabinet handle together with string, making for an interesting maze in the kitchen!

Asher's bed buddy is a blue lamb named Lamby too! JJ reminds me of Abram in the picture in the dishwasher. Abram is constantly trying to touch everything in the dishwasher when I am loading or unloading. I've never let him climb on it...maybe I should and just see what he does! JJ is a cutie!

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
