Our not-so New Deck

As you probably know, we had a deck built way back in... oh, when was that? Yeah I'm not sure but before we posted pictures, we wanted to have it stained, install the lights and get furniture, etc etc. Well we finished all that and I still haven't posted pictures so finally, here are the pics of our not-so-NEW deck. To make it more interesting some are starring my family enjoying breakfast out there a few Saturdays ago back when fall made a sneak appearance. Custom-designed gate (that Laura had commissined for the project - yes, I am the anal) from our new driveway. We know it is a little weird that the deck extends past our house but it makes is very welcoming to guests and we wanted it BIG. A friend's advice was "decide how big you think it should be, and make it bigger." In case you are wondering:
Yes there is a grill on the deck. It is against the house to the right of the bay window. Yes, the walkway seen in this picture is new too. As are the three "super steps" at the end of it. They are basically giant 100+ pound pieces of granite (I think) laid on top of each other
And yes, there is a gate at the top of the stairs.
We have already really enjoyed it and almost wonder why we didn't have it built sooner. We've had a few friends over for cookouts and look forward to doing that even more in the fall and next spring. We might even get one of those big heaters that restaurants have on patios and use it this winter... we'll see if we are that into it. We do! We do! We DO!! Want to come over for a cookout, that is :) It looks great! I now have deck envy and I am not at all surprised that you had a gate custom designed for your deck :)

I know I am going over board with this but as I was nursing my son last night and he was cuddling with his doggie, I thought of a few more... Identical Lovey - Once your child has clearly established a lovey, get a second one exactly the same. It makes switching them out for washing so much easier and if your child is sick and throws up all over Lovey #1, you can "pretend" to quickly clean it and swap it out with the ready-and-waiting clean Lovey #2. We actually have 3 of my son's doggie - one is permanently in the car, one in his room and the last stays hidden in a closet for "back up". Cold Soothie Paci for Teething - We used this type of paci only for a very short time when my kids were newborns, then we switched to a Avent kind that is less likely to fall out... anyway, I kept this kind and figured out these are great when kids are teething. JJ is at it again

Last year my mother-in-law gave us a plastic snow globe, which, the kids LOVE. I think that's in part because they are actually allowed to play with it and real snow globes are off limits. With JJ it is a very good thing real snow globes are off limits. Just watch this:

A Few of My Favorite (Mommy) Things

One of my favorite (no, it is my FAVORITE) blogs is It's Almost Naptime and Missy is doing a Mom-to-Mom post where anyone (even the likes of me) can submit some of their mommy tips and how-tos to make life easier. So without further ado here are some of my favorite things, with and without photos: Contoured Laundry Basket - a MUST-HAVE for any mom with a baby - you can hold it and the baby while going up and down the stairs! And even when you aren't holding a baby, you are likely holding something else. The Time Timer - a visual "clock" for kids who can't yet tell time. We use it for quiet time and I can put up to 2 hours on the clock (the red can wrap around twice) and tell Marie she can come out of her room when "all the red is gone." It's on the expensive side but very cool. (Thanks for telling me about it Jane.) Frozen, Rotten Bananas - well kind of... our household won't eat bananas if they are the slightest bit mushy.
